How do I turn on open and click tracking?
Enable tracking for one campaign and understand what its numbers mean.

Open and click tracking are off by default. Both require a verified tracking domain.
Turn tracking on
Section titled “Turn tracking on”- Open the campaign.
- Find the Track emails row in the campaign’s settings. Its value reads On or Off.
- Select it. A panel opens.
- Turn on Track link clicks, Track opens, or both.
- Press Save on the campaign. Your saved choice applies to its first email and follow-ups, including when you enable tracking after scheduling it.
If the panel says Needs a verified tracking domain of your own, select Set up tracking first.
You can change these switches until the first send. After sending begins, they are fixed for that campaign.
Turning on either option sends the campaign as HTML.
Understand the trade-off
Section titled “Understand the trade-off”- An open means an image loaded. It does not prove a person read the email.
- Apple Mail privacy can create opens automatically.
- Image blocking can hide a real open.
- Security scanners can follow links before a person does.
- Pixels and rewritten links can hurt deliverability.
Use reply rate as the primary signal.
What ColdMerge records
Section titled “What ColdMerge records”ColdMerge records the message, event type, time, and clicked link position. It does not record IP address, user agent, device, or location.
Tracking counts messages, not repeated events. A message opened several times counts once. A given link clicked several times in one message counts once.
Links that are not tracked
Section titled “Links that are not tracked”| Link | Reason |
|---|---|
| Unsubscribe link and header | Opt-outs are never tracked |
mailto: or tel: |
A redirect cannot replace these actions |
Relative URL or #fragment |
There is no destination host |
| URL containing a merge token | The destination differs by recipient |
| Any link after the first 500 in a campaign | Tracking is capped |
Only ordinary http:// and https:// links are rewritten.
See Analytics for Opens and Clicks totals.
