ColdMerge stores each person once as a contact. A list groups contacts for a campaign. An import records what one uploaded file changed.

The rule that prevents duplicates
Section titled “The rule that prevents duplicates”An email address identifies one contact inside your Organization. Importing the same address again updates that contact. It does not create a second copy.
A contact can belong to several lists. Removing a contact from one list does not delete the contact or remove them from other lists.
Before adding people to an existing list, check whether a live campaign targets it. Campaigns keep enrolling new list members by default.
