What happens if a payment fails?

Follow the 30-day payment-failure timetable and restore sending before or after the subscription lapses.

2 min read

A failed subscription payment starts a 30-day grace period. Existing campaigns keep sending at first. New campaigns stop starting on Day 14, and all sending stops when the subscription closes on Day 30.

Day What changes
Day 0 The status becomes Payment past due. Sending continues.
Days 3, 7 ColdMerge sends payment reminders.
Day 14 New and scheduled campaigns cannot start. Campaigns already sending continue.
Days 21, 28 ColdMerge sends reminders that name the closing date.
Day 30 The subscription closes, the status becomes Lapsed, and sending stops.

Nothing is deleted during this timetable. Paying before Day 30 clears the failure state.

ColdMerge sends the payment reminders, not Stripe. Notification settings cannot turn them off.

If a reminder names the card, it uses a customer-facing brand such as Visa or Cartes Bancaires. For a dual-branded card, it uses the network you chose. If Stripe cannot identify the brand, the reminder says “card” instead of showing a provider code.

  1. Go to Settings > Billing.
  2. Choose Manage billing.
  3. Enter your Current password, then choose Open billing. If you sign in only with Google, choose Confirm with Google instead.
  4. On Stripe, update the payment method or pay the outstanding invoice.
  5. Return to ColdMerge.

The payment warning disappears after ColdMerge receives the successful payment. A scheduled campaign that was waiting can then start without being recreated.

After Day 30, the old subscription is closed. Start a new one, then choose which campaigns should continue.

  1. Go to Settings > Billing.
  2. Choose Subscribe and complete checkout.
  3. Open Campaigns.
  4. Open each campaign you still want to send.
  5. Choose Resume.

ColdMerge does not resume every campaign automatically after a lapse because a contact list may have become stale while sending was stopped.

  • Contacts, lists, campaigns, templates, queue order, and history remain stored.
  • You can sign in, edit the workspace, and export contacts.
  • Unsubscribe and suppression protections remain active.
  • Hand-composed outreach resumes when the subscription is active. Campaign sending and follow-ups also require you to resume the campaign. Preview sends to addresses you own remain available while the subscription is lapsed.

ColdMerge keeps a lapsed workspace for 180 days. It sends an email at least 14 days before permanent deletion. Resubscribing before deletion cancels that cleanup.

Trial expiry and cancellation are different

Section titled “Trial expiry and cancellation are different”

A trial that ends without a card has no failed charge. Sending pauses, and you choose Subscribe to start the first paid plan.

If you cancel a paid subscription, access continues until the end of the paid period. See Manage or cancel your subscription.
